Navaratri is coming up!
As you may know, Navaratri (which translates to “nine nights”) is a celebration of Shakti, the source of creation. Importantly, for those of us who are on the inward journey, Navaratri is a time for intensifying practice and reveling in the sweetness and beauty of the journey.
This year, Navaratri runs from October 9-18, and in preparation for it, I’m offering a 4-week course via Embodied Philosophy. Over four Tuesday night sessions, we will explore the symbolism of the Devi Mahatmyam, a text dated around 400-600 CE. In 700 verses, the Devi Mahatmyam (translated as “the supremacy of the goddess”) describes the saga of the victory of light over darkness. Importantly, this text is an allegory of the inner journey and provides a roadmap with a remarkably accurate description of its pitfalls and milestones. This roadmap will be the focus of our 4-week study.
In addition, we will learn two of the most pristine hymns from the Devi Mahatmyam. The course will end on October 9th, the first day of Navaratri, just in time for the celebrations!
