Shakti rising online retreat: part ii

A joint retreat with Svatantra Institute and Tantra Illuminated

In May 2020, Kavitha Chinnaiyan and Hareesh Wallis collaborated on a spectacular offering, the Shakti Rising Retreat Part I, where we explored the first five of the Daśa Mahāvidyās (Kālī, Tārā, Tripurasundarī, Bhuvaneśvarī, and Tripura Bhairavī) in our sādhanā and lives.

This year (April 13-17, 2023), we will continue on this journey through the exploration of the next five (Cinnamastā, Dhūmavatī, Baglāmukhī, Mātaṇgī, and Kamalātmikā) Mahāvidyās.

The Daśa Mahāvidyā have traditionally been steeped in esoteric and mystical descriptions, often removed from the practicalities of the spiritual journey.  Ordinarily, these great goddesses cloaked in mystery, with several pre-requisites required to invoke them, such as initiation into particular traditions and mantras. However, these goddesses are relevant to any tradition since they personify cosmic forces such as time and space that play into the moment-to-moment unfolding of our lives.

Unlike the first five goddesses, the second half of the sequence of the Mahāvidyās is highly esoteric with no widely available texts for understanding them in a way that makes their presence in our lives immediate and palpable. Naturally, we wouldn’t recognize them when they appear in our lives constantly (as we will see!).

Unlike in traditional paths, here we will once again examine the unmistakable presence of these great goddesses of wisdom in the moment-to-moment unfolding of life.
